If you haven’t had a chance to set up a del.icio.us account, I highly suggest you do so! It’s probably my favorite tool!

Upcoming Technology and Math Workshops

Beth Swain recently send out an email talking about the upcoming technology and math inservices she will be offering. I think these are going to be great, and I highly recommend them!!

1. November 27th, 3:00 to 4:00 pm, G W Carver Computer lab– this workshop will focus on websites for teaching SOLs from the patterns, functions and algebra strand. There is something for every level K-5. They have basic patterns to balance scales plus much more. I am sure you will find something to take back to your classroom to use. You will have time to play and explore the sites during the workshop. (RSVP to Beth by Nov. 19)

2. January 15th, 3:00 to 4:00 pm, G W Carver Computer lab – this workshop will focus on using the Smartboard in your classroom. I have activities/ideas/games for k-5. You will get hands on experience with the smartboard. Many of the activities are templates that you can customize to your level of students. The focus of this workshop will be on math vocabulary and the SOLs in the number and number sense strand. (RSVP to Beth by Jan. 4)

She plans to schedule 3 more workshops to focus on other Math strands. Recertification points will be given for attending all 5.

I’ve had a chance to see a “sneak peak” at what she will be sharing, and I think you will walk away with things you can use in your classroom right away! I’ve had people asking for ideas to use in remediation time and things to do with the Smartboard, and these workshops will give you ideas for both! Hope you will be able to join us.

What would you like to learn next year?

The ITRTs are in the process of nailing down a series of in-services for next year.  We plan to offer 20 one hour in-services after school in the same type of format as we’ve done in the past.  Instead of the unscheduled in-service credit, however, we will be offering recertification points.  Here’s your chance to tell us what you would like to learn! Leave me a comment and let me know!

Hello, Web 2.0 Workshop Participants!

Today we are talking about ways that Web 2.0 tools, such as wikis, blogs, podcasts, and many others, can be used in classrooms to enhance learning! I’d like you to experience leaving a comment on a blog. Find the link for this article that says “comments.” Click on it, and post an answer to at least one of these questions:

  • Do you have any ideas about how you can use a Web 2.0 tool in your classroom to enhance your curriculum, motivate your students, or communicate with the community?
  • Who do you think the “community” might be?
  • Can you think of any ways another type of teacher might use one of these tools?
  • At first the concept of Web 2.0 may be hard to grasp–it was for me. Do you have any questions?
  • You are some of the first teachers in SCS to look at Web 2.0 in depth as a group. Any suggestions for other teachers as they take this inservice or as they begin to work with these tools? Any suggestions for me?
  • Do you know of any other Web 2.0 tools you think others might find useful?

You do not need to leave your email address or a webpage. Thanks for sharing! Not only will you have a chance to comment on a blog, you will be helping other teachers and me!

Upcoming District-wide Technology Inservices

Yes, the ITRT department will be teaching after school inservices for unscheduled inservice hours again this year.  A sneak  preview of the topics—Kerio:  More Than Just Email, Beginning Front Page, Front Page Workshop, Beginning PowerPoint, PowerPoint Workshop, Digital Camera Workshop, Intro to Web 2.0, Movie Maker/ Photostory, and maybe more!  We will be offering a workshop format where you come prepared to make and take…and the usual inservice format where you will be introduced to a certain piece of technology.  Enough on that for now….just keep a lookout for a brochure and website giving the details!!

SchoolNotes

Both Mrs. Rose and Mrs. Byington are requiring that their teachers have a SchoolNotes page.  To help those teachers who do not have a SchoolNotes page yet, two workshops will be offered (Oct. 16—GWC and Oct. 18—East) on this topic.  If you need help with SchoolNotes or would just like the company of co-workers as you make your page, please join us!  Bring some information about your class that you would like to post.  If you make a page on your own, make sure to let me know so that I can link it to our school’s website!
