The Vowel Zoo!

Students in Mrs. White’s Kindergarten classes researched and made animals that started with the short vowel sound.  They worked in small groups to build their creations, and then animated them with an app called ChatterPix Kids.  Take a look at their zoo below!

The projects are also posted on the Oak Grove Digital Archive, including Vowel Zoos from Mrs. Blankenship’s Class and Mrs. Fox’s Class.

Hands are for Helping

Kindergarteners have been learning about using their hands for helping while in Guidance class this month.  First, Mrs. Pettipiece read them the book, Hands Are Not for Hitting by Martine Agassi, PhD.  Then students practiced identifying positive ways to use their hands. To end the lesson, students use the app, Story Kit, to take their own picture and record their voices describing ways they use their hands for helping.

Their final creations are below!  Turn up your volume and take a listen!

Hunting for Treasure with Kindergarten Pirates!

The Kindergarteners at Glenvar Elementary went treasure hunting on Friday to look for “pirate loot!” Using treasure maps and gps units, they found all sorts of goodies while practicing their map skills. They did this in full pirate attire, of course! Here’s some pictures of the event…it was a blast!!
